Costa Blanca Property Types - Fincas/Cortijo

Fincas/Cortijo
What is a finca? Literally translated it means ranch or farm, so from a property stand point a finca is the farm house

A Finca is a country property which has around 10,000m2 of land. Fincas usually require renovation work to bring it up to the standard of a family home. These can be good value for money as usually you get a good sized property with land.

They also offer peace and quiet as neighbours can be some distance away. Remember if your neighbours are not close then the amenities may not be either!

However a finca in traditional terms refers to the farm land and the cortijo the house which stood on the land. Today a Cortijo on the other hand describe the type of house, generally it is a series of linked buildings forming a U shape, therefore encompassing a large patio area at the centre of the property. Cortijos are generally large properties, which have in the past been animal farms.

Today many fincas and Cortijos stand empty as the generations past that once owned them have passed away and the younger generations turn away from farming and look for more modern careers in commercial centres. Banking, retail and Information technology.
